TUG BOATS

.
.
.
.

This little tug boat is pushing a big barge. See the man on the front of the barge. He is a crew member and he ties up the lines when the tug goes to a dock. The captain is steering the tug boat from the little house on the tug. He's looking out the window.

Here comes another red & white tug boat pulling a barge around the bend. This tug boat is bigger and has lots of windows at the top.

This barge is a green and orange dredge. The dredge has big pipes that go to the bottom of the channel and sucks mud and sand from the bottom and puts it someplace else. This makes the channel deeper for boats to go through. When the channel gets too much sand and mud in it boats get stuck. The tug is taking the dredge to a spot where there is too much sand so it can make it deep for boats.

Look at the big wake behind the tug boat and the barge

There is a little green and orange boat helping push the big barge.

There they go past the red marker to a spot that needs the dredge to make the channel deeper. Good job tug boat.

This tug boat is not working. It is not pushing or pulling a barge. It must be going home after a long days work. Look at all the tires hanging off the side of the boat. Those tires protect the tug boat when it comes along side another boat or a dock. They are called fenders.
