WILD HORSES

The Yellow Boat went to Cumberland Island to see wild horses.

They can play on the beach and dunes, or run in the forest or salt marshes. Some have been here since the Spanish came with their strong little ponies. Others were high bred horses that were released by a wealthy lady that had lived on the island. Together they made beautiful wild horses that feed on the grasses that grow on the island. If you are very careful you can walk close enough to watch the horses, but don't get too close because they are wild and would be frightened by you. Here's some pictures of the horses.

Here's a bunch of cowboys and cowgirls riding in a stagecoach.
1, 2, 3, 4 horses with white feet.

Next a red stagecoach being pulled by white horses.

Somebody put pretty decorations on this one.
Lots of blue and a little yellow, pink, red, orange, purple and pink. Look...they put some on the wheels too!

This is a pretty horse with a white blaze on his face.

Wow, it's black!

Somebody combed his hair nice.

Two banditos and their fancy horses

Uh Oh, The horses pooped in the street. Here come the street sweepers to clean it up. That's a good thing to do.

THEN EVERYONE WENT TO THE RODEO

Cowboys riding on bucking horses.

Hold on tight cowboy.

Oh No....I think this one is going to fall off.
The clown is there to help him when he does.

Here's one of the Rodeo Clowns

Look how high this horse can kick. He doesn't like being ridden.
This cowboy is really good at staying in the saddle.

I think I like horses that ride nice like the ones in the Parade.
They were taught good riding manners.

What are the cowboys trying to ride now?

YIKES!! It's a big bull.
What a wild ride that must be.

This cowboy is chasing a cow with his horse.
Is that why they call them cowboys?
Now he jumped off his horse and is wrestling the cow.
Silly cowboy!

Wait till your mommy sees how dirty you got!

The Cowboy Kids come out with their hats and horses.
DON'T YOU HAVE A COWBOY HAT AND A HORSE LIKE THEIRS TO RIDE?

GIDDY UP

RIDE THAT HORSE COWBOY

BIG SHIPS

This is a container ship being taken under the bridge by a tug boat.
See the tug in front?

This blue ship is a container ship.
The ship picks up the container boxes at one city or port and takes to another.
Sometimes the ship has crossed a big ocean to bring the containers.
This ship has docked at a shipyard that has lots of cranes to lift the container boxes off the ship
and put them on the dock, on a truck or maybe a train.
The containers are full of things that go to stores. I think one of them is full of toys.

Here are some of the crew men that work on the ship.

This is an aircraft carrier. It is a really, really BIG ship.
It is called that because it carries airplanes on the deck.
The airplanes can take off and land on this ships big deck.

This is a Coast Guard Ship.
If a boat has troubles at sea they call the Coast Guard to come help them.

This is a submarine. They call it a submarine because it can go under the water.
That's why it looks different than most ships.
The sailors can close it all up so the water doesn't get inside and it goes under water.
Better go below quick when they sound the alarm and are going to dive into the water.
Sometimes it comes to the surface and rides on top of the water.
It has a very tiny deck on top to stand on.

These big ships are in a Naval Shipyard. They can dock here and have work done.

A really big ship can be put in what is called a dry dock.
The dry dock sinks into the water for the big ship to sail into.
Then the water is pumped out so the inside of the dock is dry and you can work on the bottom of the ship.
This ship would be too heavy for a crane to lift up.
Good thing they have dry docks.

The little red boat is a pilot boat.
The man getting ready to go up the ladder to the big ship is a pilot and is going to show them the safest way to go through the water. Then the little red boat will come pick the man up and take him home again. The big ship will go safely on its way.

This is a big sailboat.
It has 3 masts. Count them 1, 2, 3.
When it raises it's big white sails there will be 3 of them to catch the wind
and make the boat sail over the water.

See the cranes on this big red ship.

This big white boat tied to a dock is called a yacht.
It has lots of windows in it for people to look out.

This ship carries cars and other vehicles in it. It's called a car carrrier.

When it gets to a dock there is a big door that opens and the cars roll off the ship.
When they put cars on the ship they roll on. That's why they call this a RO RO.

This big ship must be empty, it's not very heavy. You can see the red bottom paint. When it is full of cargo the red bottom paint is under water because the ship is heavier. Must be going to a port to pick up cargo.
